Laser hair restoration: an aesthetic practitioners' story

Hair thinning in women is a fast-growing concern – a leading aesthetic practitioner tells us her story.

Hair thinning in women is becoming one of the fastest-growing concerns seen in aesthetic and dermatology clinics, driven by everything from chronic stress and hormonal changes to the increasing conversations around GLP-1-related shedding.

43-year-old Aesthetic Doctor Raquel Amado noticed hair thinning again, years after a hair transplant, so she turned to laser hair restoration to restore both her hair density and confidence.

Dr Raquels Story…

For 43-year-old aesthetic practitioner Dr Raquel, thinning hair had become an ongoing source of frustration, despite having already undergone a hair transplant several years earlier.

"I had been experiencing hair loss for many years,’ she explains. ‘I underwent a hair transplant in 2016, but a couple of years afterwards I began noticing thinning again."

Like many women experiencing hair changes linked to stress, hormones, ageing or genetics, Dr Raquel found herself trying countless shampoos and topical products promising fuller, healthier hair. None delivered the improvements she was hoping for.

The hidden emotional impact of hair loss

While hair loss is often dismissed as a cosmetic concern, the emotional impact can be substantial. For Dr Raquel, it became something she thought about every day.

"Seeing photographs of myself and noticing the continued thinning made me realise how much it was affecting me emotionally. I found myself becoming increasingly unhappy and self-conscious about my hair."

Research consistently shows that hair loss can affect confidence, social interactions and overall quality of life, particularly in women, where the condition is often less openly discussed.

Beyond hair transplants

Following the return of her hair thinning, Dr Raquel began exploring alternative treatment options. After consulting with Laser Expert Dr Tanya Phillips, she decided to undergo Fotona laser hair restoration.

The treatment uses advanced laser technology to stimulate the scalp, support circulation and encourage healthier hair growth. Importantly for busy professionals, there is no downtime and treatments can be incorporated into normal daily life, with half-hour treatments being delivered every two weeks.

"Dr Tanya explained everything thoroughly and clearly outlined how the treatment works, which gave me confidence in the process," says Dr Raquel.

What was the treatment like?

One of the biggest misconceptions around laser treatments is that they may be uncomfortable. In reality, Dr Raquel describes the experience very differently. "The treatment was painless, straightforward and very easy to undergo. It fitted into my routine without causing any inconvenience."

Across eight treatment sessions performed approximately two weeks apart, she found the process comfortable and reassuring from start to finish.

The results

Hair restoration is rarely an overnight process. Like most evidence-based hair treatments, results develop gradually. Around three months after beginning treatment, Dr Raquel started noticing meaningful changes.

"My hair felt noticeably thicker, fuller and healthier. Overall, it looked much better than it did before treatment," she shared.

The visual improvements translated into something equally important: renewed confidence.
"Seeing the improvement in the thickness and appearance of my hair has made me feel much more confident in everyday situations and when looking at photographs of myself."

More than just hair

For Dr Raquel, the most significant outcome was not simply improved hair density, but the emotional impact that came with it. "The treatment has had a very positive impact on my confidence, self-esteem and overall wellbeing. Feeling happier with my hair has helped me feel more comfortable and confident in myself."

Would she recommend it?

Her answer is immediate. "Absolutely. The treatment is pain-free, comfortable and delivers excellent results. My experience has been extremely positive, and I would happily recommend it to anyone experiencing hair loss or thinning."

As awareness grows around female hair loss, stress-related shedding and hormonal hair changes, treatments such as Fotona laser hair restoration are increasingly offering patients a non-surgical option to regain not only healthier-looking hair, but confidence too.
